Klin Mahomet, 31, duly sworn, stated:-

Twenty-two men embarked at Kaukeng as passengers. I was

standing on the port side on the upper deck washing my clothes about 6.30

when I saw a Chinaran come up from the lower deck with the No. 1 cook of the

Steamer. I asked him why he did so and the cook said than when he had finished

his meal he would go away. The man was carrying a small bag. I then went on

with my washing. Nothing more happened until about a quarter of an hour had

passed when I heard an explosion abaft the 1st.Class cabins on the upper deck.

I was then standing near the top of the boiler drying my clothes. I ran into

the saloon and asked the Captain if he had any arms. The Captain asked me

what was the matter and I said there was something wrong. Dr. MacDonald was

also in the cabin. A "stink-pot" was then thrown in through the window on

the port side and a shot fired. I rushed out on the starboard side after

Dr. MacDonald, I saw several men run round from the port side. I saw Dr.

MacDonald fall. I put my hand near his head to protect him and was shot in the

hand. I cried to the pirates not to shoot and received a shot in the mouth.

I then ran below to the boiler-room. I was unconscious for some time. The

Engineer came and helped me out.

Ali Akbar, 20, duly sworn, stated:-

on the port side when I heard a scuffle and saw the Captain strike a Chinaman

on the chest. I ran up to interfere. My Revolver was empty as the previous Captain had given orders to that effect after an accident. My Cartridges
